Upper East Regional Police Command has apprehended a community member of Zorkor Gambolga “Felix Aposonge Ayelazoya” for cutting off the fingers of his 11 years old nephew, using a machete, over stolen 20 Ghana Cedis.
This sad incident, occurred in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.
The middle and little fingers of the victim were severed off a wood by the victim after a scuffle resulted between the victim denied stealing the 20 cedis his uncle confronted him about.
This sad story, was indeed a blow and shock to the residents of the town as they got to know about it after the child screamed loudly following the severe pains he felt amid the violent act of the suspect.
Mr. Atanga William “Chairman of the unit committee” after getting the information, headed towards the police station to lodge a complaint, around 5:30 p.m on June 8, which was a Monday.
The suspect accused the victim of theft and considering it a reason for his action.
Assistant SP Mr. David Fianko-Okyere “PRO of Upper East Regional Police Command’ confirming the case to daily graphic, indicated that the suspect has been charged in accordance with ” using an offensive weapon, contrary to Section 70 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and causing harm” by the Bongo Magistrate Court.
He further explained that the convict has been granted bail and is to return to court on July 10, 2020, whilst the docket is being prepared to be sent to the Attorney-General’s Department.
According to the assistant SP of police, the victim has been sent to the hospital to receive medical treatment and has also been ordered to stay with another family member while the suspect is dealt with.
On the other hand, he urged the residents and parents to avoid violent and cruel acts towards their children, which would endanger the life of the children to serve as a hindrance to their brighter future.
He explained that, the police would do take up their responsibilities to protect the right of the children.
