First Lady, Rebecca Akufo Addo Announces The Cancellation Of The International Women’s Day Due To COVID-19

Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s first lady has announced the cancellation of International Women’s Day due to the reported case of COVID-19.

The huge event was scheduled for the evening of March 13 at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

In a press release, the office of the 1st Lady states explicitly that the sudden change of plans has been due to the announcement of the infectious COVID-19 in the country.

The International Women’s Day High-Level Event was reportedly the biggest event at the hotel this week and was expecting over 400 guests.


Taking to her Instagram page to post the announcement, she captioned the with; “Kindly take note”

  • Clean hands frequently with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • Avoid shaking hands.
  • Cover nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue or flexed elbow
  • Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms
